Enter Elizabeth (2014)

Enter Elizabeth premiered in September 2014 at the fifth annual Harvest Chicago Contemporary Dance Festival, at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts.  It is a work inspired by Beethoven’s most spectacular failure, the overture to his only opera Fidelio.  The overture, Leonore No. 3 (as it was re-written at least three times), was too grand to be an introduction, dwarfing the opera that followed.  With this failed first impression in mind, Enter Elizabeth rolls out the red carpet (literally) to perform and re-perform entrances – dancers running back into the wings to try and begin again and again.  With an original score by singer/songwriter Will Post, this work was hailed a “triumph” by Lauren Warnecke of SeeChicagoDance.

Enter Elizabeth was funded by the generous donations of individual patrons, in an effort to make a work that would travel to festivals across the country.  Thank you to everyone who helped this work come to fruition!
