Lamentation Variation (2013)

In association with and using the creative structure provided by The Martha Graham Center of Contemporary Dance, Lamentation Variation premiered at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts (Chicago, IL) as a part of “Vision, Faith, & Desire: Dancemakers Inspired by Martha Graham,” alongside works by Winifred Haun, Ayako Kato, and Peter Sparling.  Begun in 2007 as a tribute to the victims of 9/11, the Lamentation Variation Project invites choreographers to create short works inspired by Graham’s iconic 1930 solo Lamentation. Following the Graham Center’s choreographic guidelines, Leopold’s Lamentation Variation joins a prestige group of choreographers, including Richard Move, Larry Keigwin, Lar Lubovitch and Doug Varone.
